ABSTRACT
Infection with Elizabethkingia species poses a significant illness risk to hospitalized patients and the public in general. This emerging opportunistic pathogen can infect the nervous system, pulmonary system, skin, and bloodstream. Outbreak sources include the plumbing system, patient care equipment, and the hands of health care personnel. This article discusses the environmental sources and transmission, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and nursing considerations.
